With two final projects and one final test to go I stand at the edge of what was a successful fall session.
While others are dreaming of winter break adventures, I am already planning for the spring semester. A full time student status, Editor-in-Chief role, and Resident Advisor position would seem daunting to anyone- but I’m not anyone. I will admit however, that winter break sure is looking really good.
The only thing greater than our 35 days of winter bliss is The Otter Realm. Let’s be honest with ourselves, an open forum in which issues relevant to the CSUMB community are addressed in an unbiased, completely uncensored, accurate, and responsible manner seems almost too good to be true. Yet, here we are, The Otter Realm, alive and growing.
Next semester The Otter Realm will welcome a new batch of amazingly talented student reporters who will write clear, concise, and well informed articles. Knowing CSUMB is involved in the development of such talented individuals will almost literally blow your mind. I have high hopes to see even further growth within The Otter Realm.
I look forward to the abundance of interaction we will receive from the CSUMB community. I sincerely do welcome the community to write in to us about issues you want to see further covered. Have a question tingling at the back of your brain? Email us and we will send out one of our talented reporters to find the answer. Have something to brag about? Share with us online. Have an idea? Tell us about it. Part of a club or organization and want to raise awareness about your group? Let us help. It is with this exchange of information that we will continue to grow.
One of the things that has changed for me since first starting at CSUMB is my definition of what it means to be a college student. It no longer means just burying your head in a book trying to get through each semester’s courses with a passing grade.
Being a college student is about so much more, it consists of being not only an active learner but also an active member on campus. It starts with studying, learning and aspiring for more than settling. It is a balanced exchange of teaching and being taught. It includes a give and take of ideas and opinions. While on campus we are surrounded by such a diverse group of individuals it is a disservice not to allow yourself the opportunity of taking part in an open dialogue to further develop your ideas and opinions.
Furthermore, being a college student includes collaborating with others for a greater purpose. It is through interactions with individuals, groups, and organizations that you are exposed to an abundant amount of new experiences and better yet, contribute to the construction of the well rounded, well informed adult that is you.
Let The Otter Realm contribute to your path towards greatness by simply picking up an issue or interacting with us online at Otterrealm.net. In short, you are directly responsible for the learning experience you walk out of CSUMB with. Your only option is to make the most of it. Take time to recognize the bigger picture.
