California State University, Monterey Bay’s (CSUMB) very own Men’s and Women’s soccer teams are having a good start to their season.

The Men’s team is 4-4-1 while the Women’s team is 2-7. The goalkeepers for both teams are definitely showing their skill and helping the teams maintain their victories.

This season, CSUMB’s Men’s and Women’s soccer team have had four home games and five away. The Men’s season is going rather well with have a 4-4-1 overall record so far.

The Women’s season has started off a little rougher, but hopefully will get stronger. Their overall record being 2-7, the CSUMB Women’s soccer team needs to step up their offense.

For both teams the goalkeepers have been doing what they are trained to do. Goalkeeper for the Women’s team, Diana Zambrano, Junior, can only do so much to help stop someone from scoring. In the last match against California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), Zambrano had a record of seven saves, cutting the loss in the match to 4-0. But even that was not enough to win. As for the Men’s team, Goalkeeper Cory Alder, Junior, helped win CSUMB’s first on the road win against CSUSB.

Servando Perez, Sophomore, made the only goal in the game in the last 33 seconds of the first overtime. Calder made sure to keep his defense up to block anything that came his way. The pride and talent on both teams is great, they just need to bring it all together to make a perfect mix.

A few upcoming games for CSUMB to prove what they got will be on October 14 against Sonoma State and October 16 against Humboldt State. The Men’s game for October 14 will be at 3 p.m., and the Women’s at 12:30 p.m. On October 16, the Men’s team will play at 11:30 a.m. and the Women’s team at 2 p.m. Come out and show your support for our very own CSUMB Otters!
