On Saturday, September 24, Sustainable Seaside is hosting their “350 Monterey Event,” a 3-mile walk along the gorgeous Monterey coastline in which attendees will see what rising water levels will look like after climate change, which may result in an increase from one to three meters of water.
Local scientists, academics, and policymakers will be present and will give some profound insight and solutions regarding climate change. The overall event, “Moving Planet,” will be held across the world in order to inspire movement away from the use of fossil fuels.
The event will also contain a tsunami disaster planning drill, to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones in the event of a tsunami.
Those attending should meet on at 10 a.m. at Fisherman’s Wharf near Monterey Museum Plaza, and the hike will end at Del Monte Beach. The event will conclude with a beach clean-up and a free community picnic at Windows-on-the-Bay.
Oh, and what’s the number 350 all about? This number refers to the amount of C02 in our atmosphere that must be reduced to preserve our planet for habitation. For more information, please visit www.SustainableMontereyCounty.org.
