The World Theatre was filled for the Music and Performing Arts Department Annual Winter Concert on Dec. 4 at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB). The concert was at 3 p.m., which was attended by family, friends, and community members.
The concert featured CSUMB’s ensembles, which ranged from the Jazz/ Blues Ensemble, led by Professor Richard Bains; Gospel Choir, and CSUMB Singers, both led by Professor Paulette Gissendanner; a solo guitar performance; and the CSUMB Concert band, led by Theresa Hruby-Percell.
The backdrop was decorated with winter elements: snowflakes, an otter donning a Santa Claus hat, and a snow-covered Tanimura and Antle Family Memorial Library. Although the theme of the concert was winter, the concert’s set-list was not only winter music. Songs varied from “My Favorite Things,” from Sound of Music, a medley of Christmas music, and “Today Is the Gift,” a song dedicated to Rosa Parks in which both the concert band and choir performed together.
Despite current economic woes in the Music and Performing Arts Department, the ensembles kicked off the winter season on a highnote.
