Run Like the Cold Wind

Every year there is an event that active runners and athletes look forward to. For many this is The Big Sur Half Marathon.

The race holds thousands of coveted spots. They are sold out this year and the race is still a few months away. However, there are 250 open spots in exchange for a charity donation. Beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday Nov. 20, the race runs a beautiful course that rolls through Cannery Row, Lover’s Point, and stretches down the Monterey Bay. This event is a popular and fun way to encourage active lifestyles among Monterey residents and students alike.

Many students here at California State University, Monterey Bay are eagerly looking forward to this event, for some it won’t be their first time participating. Besides being a positive influence on active living, the Big Sur Half Marathon is a non-profit organization that benefits the youth fitness program, ‘Just Run.’

The program is integral in providing youth in second-grade through eighth-grade with the tools and knowledge needed to live a healthy eating, and active living lifestyle. Monterey Bay is known for its positive examples regarding active lifestyles so get out there and register for a local active event today, but hurry: spots for these events will fill up fast.
