The number of identity frauds occurring in the United States is rising. According to the 2010 Identity Fraud Survey Report by Javelin Strategy and Research, "More than 11 million adult consumers became victims of identity fraud in 2009, up from nearly 10 million in 2008."

Hola, Bon Jour, Buon giorno; the Foreign Language Association of Monterey County (FLAMCO) is having an open meeting. Anyone who is interested in foreign languages should attend on Friday, April 29 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The folks over as Sodexo, Cal State Monterey Bay's (CSUMB) food provider, have noticed the dissatisfactions amongst customers and are taking necessary steps to ensure a higher level of satisfaction. In an effort to better serve the diverse campus, the Food Service Committee (FSC) was developed. Made up of CSUMB students, the FSC met with Sodexo representatives to provide insight on the campus' dining needs.

Alongside other colleges and universities nationwide, Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is having its Annual African American Graduation Celebration on Friday, May 20 from 7p.m. to 9p.m. at the University Center Ball Room.

The Center of Student Success hosted the 2nd Annual Distinguished Freshman Celebration in the University Ballroom at Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB). Thirteen freshmen were awarded $1,000 scholarships during the event for achieving 4.0 GPAs in their first semester of college.

A committed student, passionate about her studies for her entire Cal State Monterey Bay career, Stephanie Arechiga-Grijalva was with the Alumni Vision Award and a Service Award at the Honors Convocation for Spring 2011 graduates.

Carrie LaPonza is a midfielder on the women's soccer team at Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and is also the President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. She is a hard working student when she is not practicing her sport on the field.

"At this moment in my life I can say that hard work has finally paid off," says Germaine Caldwell, senior, CHHS, who is recognized with the Outstanding Senior Award for Social Justice at Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) for 2011. This annual award is "given to a student who has participated in a project that promotes social justice and benefits local communities."

Awarded annually since the 2000/2001 academic year, the Provost's Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement is awarded to a student who has a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5, has positively contributed to the Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB) learning community, and who academically and personally stands out.

The 'Pantheon Collective' is an independent publishing company created in December 2009 by Lewis and two friends, Stephanie Casher and Omar Luqmaan-Harris.

Within a few days after Japan's M9.0 earthquake on March 11, a county-wide fundraiser was initiated by Japan Club, Japanese international students and volunteers in Cal State Monterey Bay (CSUMB).

With the recession still in full force, cuts in spending are affecting everyone. Pink slips are affecting teachers of all calibers; even teachers with tenure which supposedly secures their teaching positions are getting the infamous pink papers. According to Governor Jerry Brown's budget plan, $6.3 billion could be cut from education. That includes the $1.6 billion for higher education and $5.2 billion from K-14 education. Education is going to receive the biggest hit from the Governor's proposed budget plan, education does get the most federal funding which is why government feel this be the smartest choice for fund reduction.

A tragedy followed by a tragedy. The 9.0 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami that crushed Northern Japan on March 11 killed over 10,000 people with more than 17,500 still reported as missing. The earthquake also caused damage to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant located on the northeastern coast of Japan.
